    • William Marsh Rice University, commonly referred to simply as Rice University, is a private research university founded in 1891. As of 2009, the school had about 3,200 undergraduates and 2,200 graduate students. The university offers over 50 programs of study within its eight schools, and additional interdisciplinary programs. In 2009, the university awarded over 600 bachelor's degrees, nearly 300 Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees, over 100 master's degrees and over 150 doctoral degrees. Rice University tied for 17th in U.S. News and World Report's 2010 ranking of national universities.

    University of Texas at Austin

    • The University of Texas at Austin is a public research university founded in 1883. The school now functions as the University of Texas system's flagship university. As of 2009, the school had over 38,000 undergraduates and over 12,800 graduate students pursuing degrees within the university's 18 colleges and schools. The university's College of Fine Arts tied for 15th in U.S. News and World Report's 2008 ranking of fine arts schools. And, in 2009, the same magazine ranked UT Austin's McCombs School of Business sixth among undergraduate business programs, and its Cockrell School of Engineering ninth among undergraduate engineering programs. The University of Texas at Austin tied for 47th in the magazine's 2010 ranking of national universities.

    • Texas A&M University, a public research university, was founded in 1871 and now functions as the Texas A&M University system's flagship university. As of 2009, the school had over 38,400 undergraduates and 5,800 graduate students. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs within 10 colleges, including the George Bush School of Government and Public Service, the Dwight Look College of Engineering and the Mays Business School. Texas A&M has a seacoast maritime academy, a branch campus in Galveston, Texas, and overseas centers in Mexico and Italy.
