Established in 1970, Middlesex Community College has campuses in the greater Boston area communities of Bedford and Lowell in northeastern Massachusetts. A public two-year institution, the college's academic catalog includes associate and certificate degree programs. In addition to other allied health science degree programs in diagnostic medical sonography, dental laboratory technology and medical assisting, Middlesex offers a Nursing Associate in Science program with an option for evening and weekend study. The program can be completed within three years and includes summer study. The curriculum includes courses like Nursing Care of the Adult I, Pharmacology for Nurses and Intergenerational Nursing, in addition to non-nursing general education courses in biology, English and mathematics. Students must maintain CPR certification as well as health insurance while matriculated into the program. Upon completion of the program's requirements, Middlesex nursing graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) required for licensure as a registered nurse.

Cape Cod Community College is a two-year public institution located in the southwestern Massachusetts rural community of West Barnstable. Founded in 1961, today the college offers associate degree and certificate programs of study in areas ranging from education and environmental studies, to philosophy and public relations. Cape Cod also offers academic options for students to pursue licensure as registered nurses. In addition to day classes, the college's Associate in Science Nursing Program alternatively features an evening option with occasional weekend classes. Applicants are only accepted during the fall semester and must maintain CPR certification through the duration of the program. The program combines English, general science and behavioral science coursework with nursing courses like Fundamentals of Nursing, Nursing Across the Life Span and Pharmacology, among others. Students are eligible for the NCLEX-RN upon graduation.
