The Colorado School of Dental Assisting in Broomfield offers a program that lasts 12 weeks. You complete 12 hours of instruction each week in addition to completing an externship experience that lasts 32 hours. During the certificate program, you earn CPR certification and a certificate in radiology. You not only gain chairside dental assisting skills in a clinical environment, but you also learn about resume writing and interviewing skills. Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs offers certificate and associate's degree programs in dental assisting. Courses cover dental radiography, dental materials, dental office management, dentistry specialties and infection control. Certificate program students complete classwork and 300 hours of hands-on clinical experience. Associate's degree students receive training in expanded functions. Following the program, you are eligible to complete the Dental Assisting National Board Examination to become certified. The program also accepts individuals who are already certified dental assistants or who have two years of chairside dental assisting experience but want to gain expanded skills. Front Range Community College in Westminster offers a certificate program for aspiring dental assistants. You learn about pharmacology, pathology, nutrition and dental science. You also learn how to take dental X-rays and practice radiation safety. You are required to complete an internship.
