Pueblo Community College in Pueblo offers an associate degree program in dental hygiene. Students learn how to perform dental prophylaxis--a cleaning and oral evaluation--as well as plan dental hygiene treatments. They also learn how to apply fluoride to patients' teeth to prevent cavities. In addition, students learn to apply sealants, take dental X-rays and administer nitrous oxide. Administration of local anesthesia and teaching patients the link between their diets and oral health are also program topics. The dental hygiene program at Pueblo Community College is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. The school was founded in 1933.

The Community College of Denver in Denver offers an associate degree program in dental hygiene. Students in the program have the opportunity for extensive hands-on training, first practicing oral hygiene treatments in a lab environment, then on each other and then, finally, on actual patients. Courses in the program cover such topics as dental and medical emergencies, dental histology, dental materials, periodontics and community dental health. Following the completion of the program, students can take the National Dental Hygiene Board Examination and the Central Regional Dental Hygiene Clinical Board Exam in order to be licensed. The Community College of Denver Dental Hygiene Program was established in 1966 and is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.

Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely also offers a dental hygiene associate degree program. To be accepted into the program, students must complete prerequisite courses such as human anatomy/physiology, chemistry, microbiology and English. While in the program, students complete courses on subjects including ethics and practice management, general and oral pathology, applied pharmacology, head and neck anatomy, and immunology aspects of periodontal disease. Students also learn how to work with special-needs patients. The dental hygiene program at Colorado Northwestern Community College is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. The two-year school was founded in 1962.
