Established in 2001, the Colorado School of Dental Assisting has four campuses in the state: Broomfield, Fort Collins, Grand Junction and the state capital of Denver. Each campus comprises an actual dental practice, where students learn duties such as instrument sterilization, oral care administration and maintaining dental records. CSDA also offers career counselors to assist in job placement after graduation.
With campuses concentrated in the southwestern United States, Concorde Career Colleges has a location in Aurora, Colorado, that offers a dental assisting program. Students can choose between a nine-month diploma format or a 14-month associate of applied science degree. Dental assisting students acquire skills to handle various clinical and administrative tasks, from taking X-rays, conducting oral inspections and taking vital signs to setting appointments, completing insurance forms and processing payments.
Located in Colorado Springs, the IntelliTec Medical Institute offers a certificate of proficiency in dental assisting among its lineup of medical programs. Graduates also receive additional certificates in dental radiology and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Courses include subject areas such as dental office management, preventative and emergency procedures, and chairside assistance, and each student must take a clinical externship prior to graduation.
With its Denver campus established in 1988 and another in Colorado Springs in 2002, the Pima Medical Institute offers a 28-credit dental assisting program. Courses include Dental Anatomy and Pathology, Dental Pharmacology, and Dental Equipment Use and Care. The institution's dental assisting program also requires general education courses such as Computer Basics, Math Fundamentals, and CPR & First Aid.
