Formerly South Bend Community College, Brown Mackie College established its Boise, Idaho campus in 2008. Students can obtain a Diploma in Dental Assisting with training in general dentistry, special dentistry, chair-side procedures, business office and lab assisting. Coursework includes anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, computer applications and communications, radiological techniques, instruments and materials, and standards of practice. Brown Mackie's Dental Assisting program prepares students for entry-level employment in dental offices, physicians' offices and clinics.
Sanford-Brown College has over 30 private colleges in the U.S. The Hazelwood, Missouri campus offers a Dental Assistant Certificate program. Students are trained in dental anatomy, terminology and pathology, x-rays and radiography, in addition to using dental materials and instruments. The program has a lecture, lab and clinical component. The final portion of the program is an externship, involving supervised experience in a clinical environment. Students learn assisting techniques, office administration and dental anatomy.
Founded in 2004, Everest College offers a Dental Assisting Diploma at its Fort Worth, Texas campus. Students receive hands-on training in dental office emergencies, dental anatomy and orthodontics, radiography and lab procedures. An externship is included and involves experience in a lab setting using amalgamators, model trimmers, dental units and chairs, oral evacuation equipment, oxygen tanks, x-ray and ultrasonic units. Students are also taught clinical, administrative and radiography procedures.
Remington College has been open since 1985 and has 20 campuses throughout the U.S. Its Tampa, Florida campus has a diploma program in Dental Assisting. Through eight modules, students learn oral anatomy, oral radiology and specific dental procedures, in addition to helping with the fitting and replacing of retraction cords and dental dams. This diploma program can be completed in as little as eight months and involves an externship of 160 hours for hands-on experience. Students learn how to take casts of teeth, create temporary crowns, educate patients on preventative dentistry and take dental x-rays.
