Colleges That Offer Engineering Courses

You could make the argument that engineers make the world go round. If there is an idea that will make the everyday hustle and bustle easier to get through, it will be an engineer that figures out how to execute that idea. Colleges all over the U.S. offer programs in a wide variety of engineering specialties.
  1. Purdue University

    • Purdue University began its first engineering course as far back as 1874. Purdue's College of Engineering has almost 10,000 students and 362 faculty members. As of 2011, Purdue's undergraduate engineering program is ranked 8th by U.S. News and World Report. Purdue has over 10 engineering degrees from which to choose. It has a wide variety of focuses that range from biomedical engineering to nuclear engineering. It offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. Purdue's main campus is located in West Lafayette, Indiana.

    Ohio State University

    • Ohio State University (OSU) is located in Columbus, Ohio. Ohio State University's College of Engineering offers 13 different bachelor degrees. These range from such diverse choices as food, agricultural and biological engineering to welding engineering. In the 2009 to 2010 school year Ohio State awarded $15 million in grants and scholarships to its engineering students. Undergraduates alone received 1,250 individual scholarships. Prospective students with an ACT math score of 24 or above or an SAT math score of 560 will be enrolled directly into OSU's pre-engineering program that is a part of the College of Engineering. Students that do not meet that criteria are enrolled into a program that will help them meet criteria to join the program.

    Michigan State University

    • At Michigan State University (MSU) its College of Engineering has six departments that offer degrees in a variety of different aspects of engineering. MSU's program has 2,982 undergraduate students. MSU has 250 students studying for their master's degrees and 522 students getting their doctorates. They have a faculty of around 170 people. The mission statement of MSU's engineering program is "To deliver the highest quality engineering graduates, cutting-edge research and innovative technology for the benefit of society locally and globally."

    University of Washington

    • The University of Washington (UW) College of Engineering has 10 different programs. The programs include aeronautics, bioengineering and mechanical engineering. In 2009, the University of Washington handed out 733 undergraduate degrees and 325 graduate degrees. UW has over 5,000 students enrolled in its engineering program. The UW College of Engineering has 237 faculty members. The UW engineering students have the option of living in close proximity with their engineering peers. The "Engineering Community" occupies a few floors of one dormitory so that engineering students are able to really get to know their fellow aspiring engineers.
