Colleges & Universities That Offer Pre-Pharmacy

For individuals who want to study to be a pharmacist, the path is a long educational pathway that will take at least six years. Beginning with a solid pre-pharmacy program, students will take an interdisciplinary course load with a heavy emphasis on science and mathematics. Most pre-pharmacy programs run parallel to pre-health professions preparation no matter whether students are preparing for a future in medicine, dentistry or even veterinary medicine.
  1. Auburn University

    • Located in Alabama, Auburn University has a pre-pharmacy program that prepares students for acceptance to the James Harrison School of Pharmacy at the university. Students in the pre-pharmacy program must complete the basic core curriculum along with an intensive science curriculum for acceptance into the pharmacology program at Auburn. The core curriculum in the pre-pharmacy program combines interdisciplinary studies along with required science and mathematics courses. Students must maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average and a grade of at least a C in all core courses for acceptance into the James Harrison School of Pharmacy.

    University of Colorado Boulder Campus

    • The University of Colorado Boulder Campus offers a four-year comprehensive pre-pharmacology program for students interested in becoming a pharmacist. Most schools of pharmacy do allow applicants to apply for their programs based on a minimum list of required courses. However, applicants tend to be more successful after completion and receipt of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university along with meeting minimum course requirements. The pre-pharmacy program includes a heavy science curriculum with students mandated to take chemistry, biology, anatomy, physiology and physics.

    University of Florida

    • In preparation for earning a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, students at the University of Florida will enter into the pre-health professions program in pre-pharmacy. Located in Gainesville, Florida, students in the pre-health program prepare the same way whether they intend to enter medical, dental, optometry, podiatry, chiropractic, osteopathic or veterinary schools following graduation. The pre-health professions program combines interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis on science and mathematics. Students graduating from this program can enter any one of the many outstanding pharmacy programs throughout the continental United States.

    Chicago State University

    • Chicago State University prepares students to enter pharmacy school with the goal of achieving a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Typically, pre-pharmacy involves a two-year program in preparation for a four-year professional study program in a pharmacy college. Students in this program prepare with a minimum of 62 semester hours of pre-pharmacological studies before entering the University of Chicago School of Pharmacy. Students are prepared to take the Pharmacy College Admission Test, which is required for acceptance at most accredited pharmacy colleges and universities.
