Bachelor's to RN Programs

Students who hold bachelor's degrees in fields other than nursing can take advantage of accelerated bachelor of science in nursing programs to pursue a career in nursing. Accelerated BSN programs are designed to be completed in as little as one year. They prepare graduates to become licensed as registered nurses or earn master of science in nursing degrees.
  1. Creighton University

    • The full-time accelerated BSN program at Creighton University gives students the opportunity to earn a nursing degree in one year. Applicants need a bachelor's degree with a GPA of at least 3.0. In addition, they must have completed courses in psychology, chemistry, nutrition and microbiology. Three recommendations are required for applicants, and one must be an academic reference. The curriculum includes courses in health assessment, health care management, professional nursing and research.

    Duke University

    • The accelerated BSN program at Duke University takes 16 months to complete. Graduates are prepared to sit for RN licensing exams or continue on to graduate study, as the accelerated BSN program includes up to 15 graduate credits. Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a score of at least 1,000 on the Graduate Record Examination. Three recommendations, a personal statement and interview are also required.

      Courses in anatomy, statistics, social sciences, microbiology and English should be completed before enrolling in the accelerated BSN program. The curriculum covers pharmacology, medical Spanish, research methods and specialty areas such as pediatric, adult, mental health and community health nursing. In addition, students undergo more than 700 hours of clinical experience as part of the program.

    New York University

    • New York University's College of Nursing offers an accelerated BSN program that can be completed in 15 months on a full-time basis. Prerequisite courses in statistics, chemistry, anatomy and psychology must be completed with a minimum grade of "C" prior to enrolling in the program. Applicants submit an essay, one or two recommendations and undergraduate transcripts. The curriculum covers health assessment, leadership in nursing and specialty areas including adult, maternity, child and psychiatric nursing. Admitted students can begin the program in the fall or spring semester.

    Mount St. Mary's College

    • The one-year accelerated Baccalaureate Nursing Program at Mount St. Mary's College is open to students who have completed science and liberal arts courses including anatomy, psychology, philosophy and chemistry or physics. A grade of "C" or better is required for all prerequisite courses, and an overall undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 is needed for admission. In addition, applicants submit a personal statement and two recommendations. Coursework covers professional nursing, nursing research and specialty areas such as community health, mental health and adult nursing.
