Registered nurses (RNs) are in high demand in Utah, with faster than average employment growth anticipated, according to the Utah Department of Workforce Services. Colleges and universities all over the state provide RN educational training at both the associate's and bachelor degree levels.
  1. Weber State University School of Nursing

    • Weber State University (WSU) has been offering nursing education in northern Utah for more than 50 years. Accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission, the WSU nursing program features a ladder curriculum that allows students to progress through varying levels of nursing skill and education. Beginning with a practical nursing (PN) degree, students can advance to an Associate of Science degree in nursing (RN), to a Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) and up to a Master of Science in nursing (MSN). In addition to the main Ogden campus, WSU offers affiliated RN programs at Utah State University in Logan, David Applied Technology Campus in Kaysville and Snow College in Richfield, as well as through the online Outreach Nursing Program.

    University of Utah College of Nursing

    • Located in Salt Lake City, the University of Utah College of Nursing provides a baccalaureate RN program, as well as certificates and graduate nursing degrees. Applicants must have completed at least 45 semester hours of study, including all general education requirements and nursing prerequisite courses, while meeting GPA requirements. In addition to the traditional Bachelor of Science program, the college also offers an accelerated baccalaureate and an RN-BS online program. The college's programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and approved by the Utah State Board of Nursing.

    Utah Valley University Department of Nursing

    • The Utah Valley University Department of Nursing offers an Associate of Science RN degree, a Bachelor of Science RN degree, and an RN to BSN program at the UVU campus in Orem. Acceptance into the nursing program is competitive and requires completion of general education and nursing prerequisites, an acceptable GPA and adequate scores on the Test of Essential Academic Skills. The associate's degree program requires four semesters of course work, while the bachelor's degree program requires six semesters. The UVU nursing program is accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission.

    College of Eastern Utah Nursing Department

    • The College of Eastern Utah (CEU) is the primary provider of nursing education in east and southeast Utah, with nursing programs at the main CEU campus in Price, the Uintah Basin campus in Vernal and the San Juan campus in Blanding. All CEU nursing programs are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and offer both a practical nursing certificate and an Associate of Applied Science RN degree. Admission into the CEU Associate Nursing Degree program requires a current practical nursing license or current enrollment in a practical nursing program, successful completion of prerequisite courses and a satisfactory score on the ATI PN Comprehensive Predictor exam, an Assessment Technologies Institute test that is used to indicate nursing students' strengths and weaknesses.

    Dixie State College Nursing Department

    • Located in St. George, Dixie State College provides nursing education to Utah's southwest region. The Dixie State College Nursing Department focuses on a three-semester Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program that prepares students to complete the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN), which measures nursing competence and is required for RN licensing. Dixie's ADN program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and is approved by the Utah Board of Nursing. Admission into the ADN program is competitive, with acceptance based upon prerequisite grades, the Test of Essential Academic Skills score and a written essay. Dixie State College also offers an online RN to BSN program.
