RN Programs in Houston

People who feel a calling to care and nurture the ill, injured or suffering are often well suited for a rewarding and challenging career as a registered nurse. There are several quality registered nursing education programs in and around the Houston area. Once nursing students have satisfactorily completed the required course of study at these institutions, they are then eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination for registered nurses.

Univerity of Texas Health Science Center - School of Nursing

    • The two year curriculum at the UT Health Science Center School of Nursing will culminate in the successful candidate receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in registered nursing. This designation will command a higher starting salary and a wider variety of career choices and environments. UTHSC has redesigned their nursing curriculum and have implemented the Pacesetter program. With traditional programs, nursing students study in the classroom three days per week and have practical class at a hospital or clinic two days per week. However, this choppy schedule offers little continuity of care for the student nurse and the patients. The new Pacesetter program allows one full semester (16 weeks) of working at the same hospital environment for forty hours per week just as would be the case after the student is a licensed B.S.R.N. Partnering with the Memorial Hermann Hospital System makes this possible.
