Post-Graduate Nursing Programs

Post-graduate programs are the next step for nurses with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Advanced degrees prepare nurses to become nurse practitioners or nurse anesthetists, who are qualified to deliver some health care services once handled exclusively by physicians. Ph.D programs train nurses for careers in health administration, as well as clinical research and practice. Doctoral programs focus on leadership skills, research methods, data analysis and the philosophy of nursing science.
  1. Columbia University

    • Columbia University School of Nursing offers several advanced degree programs at its Health Sciences campus in Manhattan. Nurses with a BSN can join post-graduate MS programs to work as nurse practitioners in acute care, neonatal, oncology and several other fields. Columbia also features two doctoral programs, including a Ph.D in nursing and a DNP, a doctoral program for clinical care. The Ph.D in Nursing program focuses on research that prepares nurse-investigators to participate in studies related to health policy and nursing issues. The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program trains nurses to provide expert care in patient settings, and to recognize and treat diagnostic complexities related to acute and chronic illnesses.
