Accelerated RN Baccalaureate Programs

An accelerated RN (registered nurse) baccalaureate program is designed specifically for students who hold at least a bachelor's degree in another field not related to nursing; these accelerated programs offer a quicker option to obtain the degree than regular nursing bachelor's degree programs.

    • The University of Miami offers an accelerated program in nursing that leads to a bachelor of science in nursing for students who already have a baccalaureate degree in another field of study. Students who complete this program will be prepared to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX). Students can complete this program in 12 months and will take courses that include pathophysiology, maternal health nursing, pediatric health nursing, population focused nursing and psychiatric mental health nursing. Students will also take other courses that include adult health and evidence-based nursing practice.

    Concordia University

    • Concordia University has an accelerated second degree baccalaureate degree program that leads to a bachelor of science in nursing. This program is designed for students seeking a change of career to become a registered nurse. Concordia University states that it is possible to complete this program in three semesters. This full-time program requires that students take adult medical and surgical theory, fundamentals in nursing and health assessment, maternal and child nursing theory, and psychiatric and mental health nursing theory. Students will also take leadership and management theory, community health nursing theory and research in nursing.

    Louisiana College

    • Louisiana College offers an accelerated Bachelor of Science in nursing program for second degree students who are seeking entry into the nursing field. Students who graduate from this program are able to take the NCLEX examination. The program starts in the fall semester of every year and lasts for 16 months on a full-time schedule. Students who are pursuing this degree will be required to take courses such as concepts of nursing, pathophysiology for health sciences, therapeutic and inter-professional communication and fundamentals of client care. Students will also be required to take transcultural patterns of health care and medical/surgical nursing care across the lifespan.
