    • The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences offers a number of Masters of Science in Nursing educational tracks for the aspiring nurse practitioner. Specialty programs include pediatric acute care, women's health, pediatrics, gerontology, family psychology and mental health, family nursing and acute adult care. The university seeks to develop a number of characteristics in its graduates, including the ability to analyze health policy (including health-related economics), planning and evaluating health care education activities and providing consultation to patients and health care providers. Above all, graduates will be able to provide advanced nursing care informed by the standards and values of the profession. The number of semester hours required to complete a program varies depending on which area the student has chosen to specialize in.

    Arkansas State University

    • Arkansas State University provides nurse practitioner training at its campus in Jonesboro. The program has only one concentration, family nurse practitioner. Students must take 45 credit hours of courses that balance clinical research and practice. Most classes are available online and students may pursue their Masters in Nursing Science on either a full- or part-time basis. Students are required to apply directly to the program in addition to applying for more general admission to ASU. The university accepts applications to the family nurse practitioner program twice each year in the spring and the fall. Graduates of the program will be fully prepared for entry-level employment in clinical practice.

    University of Central Arkansas

    • The University of Central Arkansas provides students with two different career tracks for nurse practitioner. Students pursuing their Master of Science in Nursing may choose to specialize in family or adult nursing. UCA's nursing program is designed for the working professional, so all classes are available online. Students are still required to make occasional visits to the Conway campus in the course of their education. Nursing students in any educational track at UCA can pursue an additional certificate in nursing education or earn a certificate in the field after their MSN. Graduates of the program will have expert training in providing nursing care to communities, acute patients and ambulatory patients.
