Nurse Practitioner Programs in Illinois

The state of Illinois is home to a number of top colleges and universities. For potential students interested in studying in the field of nursing, one option is the program of nurse practitioner. A nurse practitioner performs some of the duties of a physician, and students seeking higher education will find Illinois provides study opportunities.
  1. DePaul University

    • DePaul University, established in 1898, offers Master of Science options in nursing. The Advanced Practice Adult Nursing-Adult Nurse Practitioner program offers students an opportunity to study in pursuit of a clinical-focused education. Students will complete no fewer than 600 hours of clinically focused supervision. Potential program participants must hold a bachelor's degree, an Illinois Registered Nurse license, and a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score of no less than 1,000, with a 4.0 in analytical writing. A grade point average of 3.0 is also a requirement, though for students with a minimum of 3.2, no GRE is necessary. In additon, previous organic and inorganic chemistry coursework is required, totaling one year. Students also must submit a statement of intent that is no more than two pages.

    University of Saint Francis: Master of Science in Nursing

    • The University of Saint Francis, founded in 1920, offers a Master of Science in nursing program, with a focus in the specialty of adult nurse practitioner. Offered online, students receive instruction in matters relating to nursing concerns of an all-inclusive nature. Graduate nursing students take Advanced Pharmacology, Advanced Nursing Research and Advanced Health Assessment, among other core requirements. Adult nurse practitioner students, in addition, take three levels of theoretical principles and clinical management, and participate in a clinical program. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in nursing, posses a 3.0 grade point average, demonstrate computer skills and prove licensing as a RN.     Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville

    • Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, founded in 1957, offers a master's degree in the specialty of family nurse practitioner, within its School of Nursing. Those seeking admission must provide three recommendations--with one from a member of the field--hold a BN in nursing and have a grade point average of no less than 3.0--with no less than a "C" in statistics coursework. Students must also provide a personal statement, pass a background review and have no less than one year in the field of nursing. Potential students submit a primary application to the graduate school, in addition to the nursing school. Successful applicants must hold a RN license in both Illinois and Missouri, offer proof of CPR qualifications, and present results from a physical showing inoculation information.
