The family NP program emphasizes primary care of individuals and families, and students will gain clinical experiences for all age groups. The adult/gerontological NP program places an emphasis on primary care of adults and older adults, with coursework in mental health and nursing informatics. The University of South Carolina is in central South Carolina in the state capital of Columbia. USC is a public university with an enrollment of more than 43,000. The school's MSN program has concentrations for acute care NP, primary care NP and women's health NP. Each program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The programs' length varies, and credits required to complete them range from 37 to 48. Curriculum in all of the NP programs includes pharmacologic management in advanced practice nursing, advanced health assessment, and research methods for nursing. The Medical University of South Carolina is the only academic health science center in South Carolina. Located on the coast of South Carolina in Charleston, this university offers three concentrations for NP: adult, family and pediatric. Full-time and part-time study plans are available for the programs, which are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Coursework includes advanced pathophysiology, biostatistics and behavioral health therapeutics. Students will also be required to complete a minimum of 540 to 810 hours of clinical internship. It takes two years to complete the full-time study plan and three years to complete the part-time study plan.
