LPN to RN Ladder

Nurses are categorized based on their level of training and education. After one year of training, students can become LPNs, or licensed practical nurses. With three additional semesters of education, LPNs can become RNs, or registered nurses.
  1. Function

    • LPN to RN ladder programs, also referred to as bridge programs, allow licensed practical nurses to return to school to gain the required education and training needed to sit for their state's nursing exam to become registered nurses.

    Geography

    • LPN to RN ladder programs are available at community colleges and universities, such as North Seattle Community College. There are also a few online programs, such as the one offered at Chamberlain University.

    Features

    • LPN to RN programs consist of classroom, lab and clinical learning. Courses include, but are not limited to, interpersonal communication, nursing concepts, mental-health nursing, pediatrics and adult nursing.

    Considerations

    • Before taking part in any nursing program, confirm that it is accredited. If it isn't, you may not be able to sit for your state's RN exam.
