LPN to RN Programs in Alabama

Many Alabama licensed practical nurses choose to continue their nursing education to obtain credentials to work as a registered nurse. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the 2008 median RN's salary was $62,450 while LPNs earned about $39,000. LPNs receive at least one year of post-secondary education, but you must have at least a associate's degree in nursing to be eligible to apply for RN licensure. Alabama's LPN to RN programs are available in a variety of college venues--from community colleges to private universities.

    • Situated in Troy, Alabama, Troy University provides public, liberal arts education throughout Alabama and other states. The LPN to RN advanced placement option for LPNs gives advanced standing for prior college work. The 70 credit hour program provides the licensed practical nurse the expanded nursing education curriculum required for state board licensure. Candidates must have a score of at least 70 on the NLN Accelerated Challenge Exam (ACE) for admission to the LPN to RN bridge program.

    Central Alabama Community College

    • Central Alabama Community College offers a LPN to RN Mobility Program, which focuses on preparing the student nurse for the advanced demands of the role of a registered nurse. Through this three semester program, students will take both general education and nursing education courses. Upon completion of the LPN to RN Mobility program, students will be eligible to complete the additional requirements to become an RN.

    University of Mobile

    • University of Mobile is a small, Christian liberal arts college affiliated with the Alabama Baptist State Convention. The University of Mobile's LPN to RN Mobility program is for professionals who have a valid and unencumbered Alabama LPN license. LPNs in this program can take a comprehensive nursing course that reduces the courses required by four courses. Student nurses also take required religion courses as an additional requirement of the university.
