The Jacob K. Javits Fellowships Program is offered by the U.S. Department of Education. The program is designed to help students who are pursing degrees in social sciences and the arts and humanities. Graduate students must demonstrate financial need. Students must be a doctoral student or entering a doctoral program, or they can be enrolled in a Fine Arts Master's degree program. As of 2010, students were awarded $13,755 for tuition and a $30,000 stipend for living expenses. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. The program requires students to submit GRE test scores. Applications are accepted each year.

The State University of New York offers the graduate opportunity program to students who attend SUNY schools. The program provides funding to cover the cost of graduate school tuition. Students must demonstrate financial need. In addition, undergraduate students are encouraged to apply to the program prior to entering graduate school. Funding for this program is limited. Students should see their financial aid office for applications. Applicants should complete the Free Application for Student Aid.

Enhanced Chancellor's Fellowship is offered by the Graduate Center of The City University of New York. The five year fellowship is set up to assist graduate students with tuition. Along with receiving paid "in-state" tuition, students also receive a yearly stipend of $18,000. Applicants must be willing to teach in a CUNY school. Students should be doctoral students who attend a CUNY college. The purpose of this fellowship is to allow doctoral students the opportunity to engage in a Graduate Teaching Fellowship.
