The University of Chicago's College of Nursing provides several Biobehavioral Nursing Research grants for graduate students. These help pay for a training program designed to prepare researchers to study neurobehavioral and cardiopulmonary health. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, have earned either a master's or doctoral degree in nursing, and be enrolled or accepted to one of the college's doctoral programs. For either program, the student will be awarded a stipend and partial payment of tuition as well as travel and research-related expenses. The grant is eligible for renewal for up to three years. The Graduate School of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, provides Dependent Care grants for graduate students (Ph.D. and MFA) with one or more dependents, such as children, to help pay for the cost of dependent care and allow the graduate to be more available to attend necessary development opportunities for the program. As a graduate student at Northwestern University, the student is expected to attend workshops, academic conferences, and society meetings. The grant covers the cost for travel expenses and dependent care, whether that be a daycare center, care at home, or at a conference site. This grant is awarded on a rolling basis throughout each academic year from September 1 -- August 31.

Located in Urbana, Illinois, the University of Illinois offers a variety of grants for graduate students in its School of Integrative Biology (IB). It offers the Francis M. and Harlie M. Clark Summer and Research Support Grants, along with more than a dozen other awards. Both the summer and research grants are presented by the IB Fellowship Committee; applications must be submitted early in the spring semester. The summer grants provide financial support of $2,500 for the summer session graduate study, and students must have completed or be in the process of completing two years of graduate study in the school. The research support grants are typically for $1,000 and are to be used for expenses like tuition and fees, traveling, housing, or research. To be eligible, applicants must provide evidence for outstanding academic achievement and be close to finishing a laboratory, field, or research project within the department.
