Grants for African American Graduate Students

African Americans are an underrepresented group in graduate school, as are African American college professors, because there are so few who are admitted to and complete graduate programs. Whatever the societal reason for this, there are a number of groups offering grants to aid in the furthering of education for African American students.
  1. AAUW Selected Professions Fellowship

    • Formerly known as the American Association of University Women, the AAUW offers scholarships for minority females, including African American women. Typically, business administration and law are fields where the population of female students is very low. This grant encourages participation in such a field, but is not limited specifically. Applicants should inquire during their final year of graduate study. The award amount is between $5000 and $12000.
