College Grants for African American Males

African American males can receive college grants and scholarships to help cover the expenses of college. The grants and scholarships can be applied toward tuition and fees, books and living expenses. Many of the grants are available for African American males who choose to attend a historically black college or university.
  1. The Jackie Robinson Foundation's Scholarship Program

    • The Jackie Robinson Foundation's Scholarship Program awards up to $7,500 annually to minority high school students. Students with leadership potential are encouraged to apply for the scholarship, which can be used to attend a four-year college or university of their choice.

      Applicants to the program must meet certain requirements to be eligible for the scholarship. They need a recommendation letter and an official high school transcript to apply. Students must also take and submit their SAT or ACT scores to the foundation. The application for the scholarship is available on the foundation's website.

    BASF/Alfred Chisholm Memorial Scholarship Fund

    • The BASF/Alfred Chisholm Memorial Scholarship Fund is available to African American males who are attending a historically black college or university. Students also must be related to someone who works for BASF Corporation.

      The scholarship awards up to $3,000 to students who are majoring in accounting, biology and chemistry. Students who are majoring in computer science, law and engineering are also eligible to apply.

      The scholarship is available to students who are currently enrolled in college with at least a 2.7 grade point average. They need two letters of recommendation to apply for the scholarship and must submit a two-page essay. Applicants should also submit an official transcript with the application.

    Verizon Foundation Scholarship

    • The Verizon Foundation Scholarship offers awards of up to $4,587 to qualified African American students who are attending a historically black college or university. Students need at least a 3.0 grade point average to qualify for the scholarship.

      This scholarship is only awarded to students with certain majors, including mechanical engineering, network administration and computer engineering.

      Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply for the scholarship.
