Grants for African Students

There are many scholarships available for African students pursuing both undergraduate and graduate degrees. There are scholarships from corporations, schools, local and state governments, non-profit organizations, charities and private donors. There are merit-based grants for the academically inclined, need-based scholarships for students who demonstrate financial need and awards for specific areas of study.
  1. Fulbright Scholar Program

    • The Fulbright Scholar Program is administered by the US Department of State to both domestic students studying abroad and international students studying in the United States. The goal of the scholarship is to improve relations between the United States and more than one hundred other countries. To qualify, you must excel academically and demonstrate excellent leadership potential. The award amount is full tuition and fees at a participating college or university.

    Castle Rock Foundation Scholarship

    • The Castle Rock Foundation Scholarship is offered to African students in partnership with the United Negro College Fund. To qualify, you must be of African descent, must be majoring in business or engineering, have a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and be studying at Morehouse College, Bethune-Cookman College, Shaw University, LeMoyne-Owen College, Spelman College, Xavier University or Tuskegee University. The award amount is $3,600.

    Alliance Data Scholarship

    • The Alliance Data Scholarship is offered to a deserving student by Alliance Data in partnership with the United Negro College Fund. To qualify, you must be an undergraduate student of African descent, have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and be studying in the Dallas, Texas Metropolitan Area. The award amount is $5,000.

    Ahmanson Foundation Scholarship

    • The Ahmanson Foundation Scholarship is offered to outstanding students by the Ahmanson Foundation in partnership with the United Negro College Fund. To qualify, you must have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and be attending a UNCF member college in the Los Angeles, California Metropolitan Area. The award amount is between $2,000-$5,000.
