City Youth Now buys refurbished laptops for eligible students entering or already enrolled in college. Applicants need to be foster care or juvenile delinquent students residing in San Francisco with a GPA of at least 2.0 if already in college. High school seniors planning to enroll in college must have a 3.0 GPA. Any student failing to keep their grades at the minimum level must return the computer. Recipients must attend computer-related training.

Chickasaw Nation Higher Education Services provides grants and scholarships to students who possess Chickasaw Nation citizenship proof. The laptop provision is for full-time students who have a 3.0 average and 30 hours of course credit. This is a one time only issue. Eligible students receive a laptop with an AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core Processor with a 15.6” Diagonal High-Definition BrightView display and 250 GB Hard Drive.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has a laptop grant for incoming students. Eligible students receive a standard ThinkPad package with software, four years of insurance and security lock. Incoming students are encouraged to apply for the laptop, even if they were denied other financial aid. The amount of the laptop grant varies according to financial need. Applicants need to complete a financial aid form called the CSS online profile at collegeboard.com.
