Louisiana's Go Grant program helps Louisiana residents who receive a federal Pell Grant but still need help paying for their education. Full-time students can receive up to $2,000 per year, half-time students can receive up to $1,000, and part-time students can receive up to $500. The award is limited to the student's education cost gap, a calculation based on the gap between college costs and Pell grant awards. A student's ECG must exceed $199. Recipients must have began their studies in the 2007-2008 academic year or later, with the exception of students 25 and older who are returning from a break from their studies of at least two consecutive semesters. Although recipients must be Louisiana residents, some exceptions are made for those displaced by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The Safer Tuition Reimbursement Grant offers up to $8,000 for a two-year degree and $16,000 for four years of studies for students who agree to serve as volunteer firemen while completing their studies or after graduation. The program is sponsored by the Louisiana State Firemen's Association and funded by a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. According to the LSFA, 85 percent of the state's firefighters are volunteers, and the grant program aims to bring attention to the importance of the volunteer fireman's role while attracting students to serve. The award covers tuition, books and other media required for studies. Students must enroll in a degree program at a Louisiana state college, university or technical school, or a state-sanctioned EMS program. Recipients agree to become certified firemen or EMTs and spend two years as volunteers, preferably while pursuing their studies. Students may be accepted into the program after they have begun their studies. Recipients must become certified firemen or EMTs within one year after receiving the award.
