Newberry College is one school offering a program related to the field of forensic science. Newberry's chemistry and biology department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of chemistry with a concentration in forensics. One aspect of the program is its focus on simulated cases. Students are presented cases for which they must provide chemical analysis and then be prepared to justify their results. Students are also presented with various opportunities for internships and to work with law enforcement officials on real cases. Students must complete 78 credit hours in chemistry and forensic chemistry courses in order to graduate from the program. The University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg also offers a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry with a concentration in forensics. Like the program at Newberry College, the program at USC Upstate emphasizes a strong core in basic chemistry classes, but allows students a number of opportunities to apply their chemistry knowledge to the forensic field through internship opportunities. The chemistry major requires 120 credit hours in various fields of study such as organic chemistry, quantitative analysis, instrumental analysis and spectrometric identification of organic compounds.

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) provides a third option for South Carolina students to pursue a degree in forensic science. HGTC offers the Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in crime scene investigation. HGTC has established a partnership with Coastal Carolina University that allows students to transfer the credits earned in the associate degree program into a bachelor's degree program in sociology or psychology. The degree program requires 79 credit hours for completion. Courses include fields of study such as fingerprint science, criminology, criminalistics, criminal investigation, forensic photography, practical crime scene investigation, bloodstain pattern analysis and criminal evidence.
