New students begin classes twice a year, in the fall and spring trimesters. Admission is competitive. Applicants must meet pre-admission criteria for eligibility. Job shadowing prior to admission is strongly encouraged and can be set up through the Baptist College program chair. The program itself is 122 credit-hours in length.

    Jackson State Community College

    • Jackson State Community College is in the city of Jackson, 90 miles from Memphis. The college has an associate of applied science degree program in respiratory care technology. Admission is limited, and the applicant’s personal interview and grade point average determine acceptance. Applicants are required to submit documentation demonstrating eight hours of observation or volunteer experience in a respiratory care department. The program is 21 months long. Students spend the first two semesters in didactic and lab instruction at the college and the final three semesters in both the college and a hospital for clinical training. The clinical rotation includes training in acute, critical and home health care.
