Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica is a two-year college that offers more than 80 degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields. Founded in 1946, this school has a respiratory care program that instructs students in basic science along with cardiopulmonary pharmacology, principles of respiratory care and human anatomy. Part of the State University of New York system, Genesee Community College in Batavia has a respiratory care program that is accredited by the Committee for Accreditation of Respiratory Care. Some classes are taught in a laboratory that resembles a hospital room and has piped-in oxygen and compressed air, allowing students to train on respiratory equipment in a hospital setting. Students learn about pulmonary rehabilitation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and proper ways to administer sleep medicine to patients.

Hudson Valley Community College in Troy was founded in 1953. Accredited by the Commission on Higher Education, this school has a computer lab and facilities for students to conduct tests with modern equipment. The respiratory care program is an educational co-project with Albany Medical Center Hospital. It instructs students on the fundamentals of respiratory care, cardiopulmonary pharmacology, respiratory life support procedures, clinical therapeutics for respiratory care and pulmonary rehabilitation and home care.
