Respiratory Therapist Schools in New Jersey

Respiratory therapists require a minimum of an associate degree to practice. In all states except Alaska and Hawaii respiratory therapists must be licensed. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 22,100 additional respiratory therapy jobs are expect to be created from 2008 to 2018.

    • Located in Stratford, New Jersey, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey offers both associate and bachelor's degree programs for aspiring respiratory therapists. The associate degree in applied science program is designed for students without a bachelor's in another field. The Bachelor of Science degree is designed for students who have already earned a bachelor's in another field. Both programs are accelerated, full-time programs that are one full year in length, starting annually in September. To be considered for admission to the program, students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50 and submit to a background check.

    Bergen Community College

    • Bergen Community College, located in Paramus, New Jersey, offers a two-year respiratory therapy program leading to the completion of an Associate in Applied Science degree. Classes start annually in the fall. Both classroom and clinical instruction is included in the program. To be considered for admission to the program, students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and complete biology and chemistry courses with labs in addition to algebra.

    Brookdale Community College

    • Located in Lincroft, New Jersey, Brookdale Community College offers an associate degree in respiratory therapy. Students must complete a total of 30 general education credits in areas including biology, the humanities and social science, in addition to 37 credits in respiratory therapy to graduate from the program. Students can complete the program in as little as two years if they attend classes full-time. Students who would prefer to attend classes on a part-time basis can take as many courses each semester as they feel comfortable with, as long as they complete the program within 10 years.
