X Ray Tech Schools in New Jersey

Radiology technologists, or x-ray technicians, are a vital member of the health care team providing digital, x-ray and nuclear imaging services for the diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury. Requirements for applications to programs in New Jersey include a criminal background check, health physical, drug screening, CPR certification and a passing grade in requisite classes in science and math.

    • Graduates of the Radiologic Technologist program at Middlesex Community College earn an associate's degree in applied science. The 24-month program is full time over the fall, winter, spring and summer semesters, though MCC allows students to complete general education requirements on a part-time basis prior to program entry. MCC has a laboratory with radiographic units and a film processing room for hands-on experience complementary to course work. In addition, students will gain clinical practice at the local hospital and health clinics. MCC supports the Student Association of Radiographers, a student organization that plans speaker events, activities and trips.

    Bergen Community College

    • The 24-month radiography program at Bergen Community College is full-time and leads to an associate's degree in applied science. The program starts each fall. Students interested in entering the selective admissions program must pass a radiography admissions exam, have a current grade point average of 2.5 and must have passed requisite classes in math and science. The program starts each fall semester and includes hands-on clinical experience.

    Mercer County Community College

    • The selective admissions process for entry into the radiography program at Mercer County Community College begins with an admission entrance exam, which must be passed with 75 percent or better. MCCC recommends radiography students complete all general education requirements before starting the core coursework of the program. The program at MCCC is 22.5 months, is full-time and includes clinical experience and observance at a variety of hospital and imaging clinics. Graduates earn an associate's degree in applied science in radiography.

    • Union County College offers an amplified program in radiography sponsored by the Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center School of Radiography. Students who are successful in the program earn an associate's degree in science. Practical clinical experience is required for every semester except the first for the 24-month program.
