Dental Hygienist Schools in New York City

Dental hygienists perform teeth cleaning on patients as well as educate them about preventive dental health. The training program is approximately two years for an associate's degree. Advanced degrees in dental hygiene are also available at the bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. levels.     • New York University offers an associate's and bachelor's degree program in dental hygiene. Applicants must have a high school diploma with a minimum grade point average of 2.8, and a combined SAT score of 1000 or higher. Prospective candidates should also have completed courses in biology and chemistry with a B average. Applicants must submit a passport photograph and two letters of recommendation for admission.

    Hostos Community College

    • The dental hygiene program at Hostos Community College offers a two-year associate's degree. Upon completion, students will be prepared to take the national board and clinical state board examinations. Under the guidance of licensed professional dental hygienists, students provide dental hygiene care to patients as a part of their training. Graduates from the program are eligible to transfer their course credits to a four-year college and enroll as a junior; financial aid and scholarships are available to students who qualify.

    New York City College of Technology

    • The dental hygiene program at New York City College of Technology is the "oldest and largest" program in the New York metropolitan area, and is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. In addition to receiving classroom training, students also participate in hands-on clinical training at a health care facility. Applicants must submit their high school diploma and submit immunization records for measles, mumps and rubella. All incoming students are expected to fulfill a "college preparatory initiative," by taking prerequisite courses in English, science, mathematics and social science.
