The dental hygiene program at Hostos Community College offers a two-year associate's degree. Upon completion, students will be prepared to take the national board and clinical state board examinations. Under the guidance of licensed professional dental hygienists, students provide dental hygiene care to patients as a part of their training. Graduates from the program are eligible to transfer their course credits to a four-year college and enroll as a junior; financial aid and scholarships are available to students who qualify.

The dental hygiene program at New York City College of Technology is the "oldest and largest" program in the New York metropolitan area, and is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. In addition to receiving classroom training, students also participate in hands-on clinical training at a health care facility. Applicants must submit their high school diploma and submit immunization records for measles, mumps and rubella. All incoming students are expected to fulfill a "college preparatory initiative," by taking prerequisite courses in English, science, mathematics and social science.
