Graduate School Grants for Clinical Psychology

For students hoping to continue their study of clinical psychology, there are a number of scholarships and grants that will help them offset the often high cost of tuition and research. Many of these funding sources come directly through national psychology associations, while others are doled out on an institutional level. But regardless of where the funding comes from, there are numerous opportunities available to graduate students in the psychology field.
  1. Council of Graduate Departments of Psychology

    • The Council of Graduate Departments of Psychology offers students a number of scholarships to allow them to continue their higher education. While the council itself is made up of psychology departments, the actual award is given directly to the student. Departments that are members of the COGDOP are allowed to submit the applications of eligible students, though the number of candidates they can offer depends on the number of students enrolled in their program. Departments of 100 students or less can submit one applicant, those with 101 to 200 students can submit two, and schools with more than 200 can submit three. In order to apply, students must be nominated by their department and submit a completed application package. The application includes a three-page maximum letter of recommendation, an outline of the student's research project, a transcript and a curriculum vitae.

The Regional Research Award provides a $300 cash prize to winners, while the Society Conventional Research Award provides $300 for undergraduates and $500 for graduates. In order to apply, students must be members of Psi Chi and must not have previously submitted the research work to another competition. For both awards, students must submit a completed research paper that follows the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association guidelines.
