The Lee-Jackson Educational Foundation Scholarship offers several awards to students, based on an essay on two of Virginia's most famous native sons. Awards include three $1,000 scholarships for each of the eight education regions of the state, with an additional $1,000 for the best essay in each region. Three scholarships of $1,000 each are for private school or home-schooled students, with the best essay receiving an extra $1,000. The best essay in the state receives an $8,000 award for a total of $10,000. Financial need is not a factor in the award. Students can only win the award once, and community college students who seek the award must be in a transfer program to a four-year university.
