Grants for Online Graduate Schools

Online graduate studies are a convenient way to pursue master's and doctoral degrees. In the United States, several colleges and universities offer online courses as part of their graduate studies curricula. There are also a number of colleges and universities that specialize in online education. Graduate students studying online at accredited colleges and universities usually obtain funding in the same way as students who attend class on campus. Funding opportunities for online graduate students vary from school to school.
  1. The Ann "Tunky" Riley Excellence in Education Scholarship

    • The Ann "Tunky" Riley Excellence in Education Scholarship awards up two $25,000 scholarships to new students at Walden University. Students enrolling for the first time in one of several Walden graduate programs are eligible to apply. Students pursuing a Ph.D. in education; Doctor of Education (Ed.D.); education specialist (Ed.S.); M.S. in education; M.S. in instructional design and technology; special education endorsement programs and teacher preparation program with a Master of Arts in teaching (M.A.T.) are all eligible for this scholarship.

    The "Serve It Forward" Scholarship

    • University of Phoenix and the HandsOn Network have established the "Serve It Forward" Scholarship program. According to the University of Phoenix, the goal of this program is to empower volunteers to achieve their career and educational goals, "including the further development of their leadership and service abilities." As of the time of writing, HandsOn volunteers can apply for one of 20 full-tuition scholarships to one of the university's undergraduate or master's degree programs, either solely online or in-class at one of its 200 locations nationwide. Established in 1976, University of Phoenix is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

    The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program

    • The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to people who would like to teach in an elementary or secondary school serving students from low-income families. TEACH Grant recipients must teach at approved schools for at least four academic years within eight calendar years of completing the program of study for which they received a TEACH Grant. Graduate students who are U.S. citizens and attend an online university that has chosen to participate in this program are eligible to apply.
