Grants for Online Schools

Online schools are much different than traditional classrooms. One thing remains the same---they both cost money. Fortunately there are many grants and scholarships available to help cover the cost of online schools.
  1. Sources

    • Grants and scholarships can be obtained from the federal government, your state department of education and directly from the schools to which you are applying.

    Schools

    • Ensure the school you are applying for offers accredited programs. Two such schools are the University of Phoenix and Kaplan University. Most brick-and-mortar colleges also now offer online programs.

    Applying

    • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It will determine if you are eligible for any state or federal grants or scholarship opportunities.

    Considerations

    • Grant funds can often be used for costs other than online tuition, including computers, software, books and supplies, child care or other education-related expenses.

    Warnings

    • Apply for grant and scholarship opportunities early. Most have strict deadlines. The FAFSA deadline is June 30 each year but state education departments have earlier deadlines.
