Grants for Cosmetology Schools

The cost of cosmetology school is rising, just like any other form of education outside of high school. School can cost anywhere from $6,500 to $10,000. In cosmetology school, future hairdresser learn skills such as hair cutting, coloring, perming, roller setting and styling. There are several ways to paying for cosmetology school. There are several resources for finding money for school. When filling out a federal financial aid form, students can apply for loans and grants.     Oregon Student Assistance Commission

    • The Oregon Commission provides in-state residents a chance to win grants of $600. Eligible applicants must be going to an approved school that offers at least nine months of training. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and demonstrate significant financial need. It would help if the applicant qualified for the Pell Grant.

    Minnesota Grant

    • Students planning to attend the Model College of Hair Design are eligible for free money. The Minnesota Grant offers up to $1,565 to qualified applicants. There is a state of the art program at the Modell College of hair design. It offers on-campus residence. The state of Minnesota offers its residents a loan of up to $7,500 with a low interest rate.

    Cosmetology Scholarships

    • Outside of grants there are many scholarship opportunities available. Diamond Beauty Products offers five $1,000 scholarships to students attending American Association of Cosmetology Schools. Sport Clips offers 25 scholarships valued at $1,000. OPI awards six students a scholarship of $500 through the Schaffer family foundation. Students must be enrolled in a AACS school and write an essay on the industry they plan to enter.

    Careers

    • After achieving a cosmetology degree, the sky is the limit. Stylist income can vary from $25,000 to $65,000. A stylist can work in a shop or for a beauty school, hospital and the movie industry. Cosmetologist can return to school, earn an advanced degree and teach others the craft of cosmetology. There are many possibilities for a well trained stylist.
