The family-owned Franklin Beauty School in Houston was founded in 1915 by N.A. Franklin. The school was one of the first cosmetology schools licensed by the state of Texas when it qualified in 1935. The school offers certificate programs for operators (hair cutters), instructors, hair braiders and shampooers. The school is licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences. The Institute of Cosmetology and Esthetics opened in 1984 under the direction of Brenda Kieser and Kathleen Driscoll. The school received its accreditation by the National Accreditation Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences in 1988.
