Philadelphia Cosmetology Schools

Cosmetology schools teach everything from fundamentals to advance techniques of hair care, styling, color, skin care and nail care. Learning is accomplished through both classroom and hands-on practice. The Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology requires 1,250 hours of study from a licensed cosmetology school or 2,000 hours from a approved apprenticeship program which cannot be earned in fewer than eight months.

    • The Vision Academy has four locations, all in Pennsylvania, and offers day and evening cosmetology courses. The day program is full-time and takes nine months to complete. The evening program is part-time and requires 12 months to complete. The curriculum includes all types of learning styles and assists student in passing the licensing exam and building confidence in the field. Students learn design and fashion trends, including cutting and coloring of hair, working with multi-cultural hair and make-up techniques.

    Kimberly's Beauty School

    • Kimberly's Beauty School has been at its current location since 1997, and is situated close to city transit and Interstate 95. The school offers full-time day classes and part-time evening classes. Cosmetology, nail technician, esthetician and instructor training courses are available. Students are taught the necessary skills for testing by the state board for licensing. Counseling and assistance is provided to help students in their search for employment. Advising includes helping students choose a career, assisting in resume preparation, teaching of interview techniques and providing a list of potential employers.

    Jean Madeline Aveda Institute

    • Jean Madeline Aveda Institute was opened in 1987. The school has three different Philadelphia locations. The school offers a full-time day program is 42 weeks in length and a part-time evening course 63 weeks in length. Skin care, makeup and teacher's programs are also available in addition to the cosmetology program. In addition to learning hair and makeup trends and technique, students are equipped with valuable knowledge on professional business building to enhance their career and income potential.

    Empire Beauty School

    • Started 75 years ago, Empire Beauty School has 20 locations across Pennsylvania. Cosmetology and teacher's programs are offered at the Philadelphia locations. The cosmetology course teaches students in the areas of hair care: cleansing, cutting and color; as well skin care, makeup and nail care. In addition to these services, students learn about retailing and business development. Partnered with the Regis Corporation provides an additional resource for potential employment with this world leader in beauty salons.
