How to Read Hydraulic Flow Charts

Hydraulic systems can be rather complex. If somebody vocally tries to explain a hydraulic system to you, it may be difficult to understand exactly what they attempt to convey. Yet, if they use a flowchart to show you a hydraulic system, you should be able to quickly and effectively understand the hydraulic system. You need only know the general structure of a flowchart in order to read a hydraulic system flowchart.

  Look at the flowchart. Quickly identify the vital components. A flowchart will take a piece of data and flow it through a sequence in order to change it from one form to another.

  Follow the arrows. The hydraulic system flowchart will use arrows to show data flow. This will help you understand the actual sequence the system moves in.

  Understand the process. If information moves from one form and ends up in another, you can deduce what hydraulic process accounts for this information by looking at the intermediate steps between the input and output.
