Take note of the overall components of each chart. On the top of each Pyware chart there will be a note, which includes which song is being played, the set or position of all of the musicians and at which count in the music the set will be performed. Each chart will illustrate one set position for the entire marching band, and will include many different sets to illustrate the different shapes of an entire piece of music. Take note that each Pyware chart includes detailed positioning based upon clearly marked yard lines.
Lay out all of the set charts side by side in the correct order. Pyware charts use color-coded Xs to illustrate different teams that will move together to create each new shape. Each musician on the field will also have a unique number. Examine the way that each color-coded group moves from set to set and the shapes the group will create. Generally, each color-coded group will be the same type of musician, such as trombonists or percussionists.
Focus on a single musician's movements. Pyware charts can also be printed out for individuals so they know their exact position for each set. These charts have a circle around the number and color of the musician and where they need to be for each set. Make note of the yard line and depth of each position on the chart. Compare each set side by side to ascertain the exact line the musician needs to move to in order to avoid hitting other players. Take note of how many counts of music a musician has to march in place in order to be on time for the next set. The measure number will always be present at the top of each Pyware chart set.
