You use a compass to find direction during travel, which is especially beneficial to those who have a tendency to get lost. The compass needle points toward magnetic north. A compass bezel is a ring around the outside of the compass, and it is moveable and marked in degrees from 0 to 359 degrees. The compass points on the bezel are north, northeast, east, southeast, south, southwest, west, northwest, and marked by the letters N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW. A compass with a bezel is usually accompanied by a pointer, which you can use to determine the direction you need to travel to reach your destination.

Rotate the bezel until the the "N" is aligned with the needle. Move the pointer to the direction that you want to travel. Note the direction of your travel indicated on the bezel.
