As part of the Temple University Health System, Northeastern Hospital School of Nursing awards a diploma in nursing in a 27-month program beginning in January or a 24-month program beginning in May. The program has a total of nine courses and places a large emphasis on clinical experience; the students will work within one of the local hospitals like Temple University Hospital to gain hands-on experience. Academics include prerequisite courses, which are taken at Community College of Philadelphia, and two sessions of higher level courses. The program prepares students to take the examination for registered nurse licensure (NCLEX) and had a 94.3 percent first-time passing rate for its class of 2009 graduates.

The University of Pennsylvania's School of Nursing is consistently listed as a top research nursing school. It has six school-supported research centers as well as two grant-supported centers, one that studies geriatrics and the other that studies developmental disabilities like autism. The school also incorporates some of the latest technology in the field, like electronic medical records (EMR) in classrooms. Academics are divided between the Behavioral and Health Sciences Division and the Family and Community Health Division. There are undergraduate programs for transfer students, accelerated programs and graduate programs with master's and doctoral degrees. There are 18 master's degree programs, many with flexible schedule options. Clinical portions of the programs are at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

As part of Thomas Jefferson University, Jefferson School of Nursing was established in 1891 and offers associate's, bachelor's, master's, post-master's and doctoral degrees in nursing. The registered nursing (RN) program include options for a diploma or an associate's degree program. There are 12 master's programs and a dual degree program offering a master's degree in public health and a master's degree of science in nursing. Jefferson is one of the only universities in the country that has academic health centers. Its curriculum combines academics, research within four facilities, clinical care experience through the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and job placement assistance.
