The Yale School of Nursing offers graduate-level nursing studies. The school has a master's program in such specialties as nurse-midwifery, nursing management, nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist. A previous nursing education is not necessary to qualify as there is a program called the Graduate Entry Prespecialty in Nursing (GEPN), especially designed to cater to students who already have a bachelor's degree but no previous nursing education. GEPN is three years in length, while those who are already registered nurses can complete the program in two years. This school also offers post master's certification in six areas, including adult nurse practitioner, oncology nurse practitioner, pediatric nurse practitioner, gerontological nurse practitioner and psychiatric-mental health.
The Howard University School of Nursing offers four program tracks of study at the baccalaureate level. The Generic Track Program of Study is geared toward those who have completed high school and transfer students to the lower division. This is a four-year course, in which the first two years are used to give students a foundation in natural and physical sciences, humanities, fine arts and psychosocial sciences. The latter two years focus on human development, microbiology and other health sciences. The Advanced Placement Track, as the name suggests, is an accelerated program for students who have a degree in non-nursing related areas. The RN to BSN Track is for students who have an associate's nursing degree or diploma and wish to obtain a bachelor of science nursing (BSN) degree. The LPN to BSN Track is for licensed practical nurses who wish to earn a BSN.
The University of Maryland School of Nursing offers several nursing programs, which include the undergraduate program, graduate program, master's program and doctoral programs. The doctoral degree programs include doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.), doctor of nursing practice (DNP) and post-BSN/Entry Level to DNP.
The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing offers baccalaureate programs, master's programs, doctoral programs and post-baccalaureate and post-master's options. The bachelor of science degree with a major in nursing comes in first- and second-degree options. The first-degree option is designed for students who do not yet have a bachelor's degree whereas the second-degree option is for students who have already earned a bachelor's degree or are in the process of completing one in any field other than nursing. The accelerated BS to MSN with a paid clinical residency is for students who would like to train as a clinical nurse specialist.
