The electrical technology program at Perry Technical Institute, in Yakima, Washington, takes two years to complete and prepares students to work in residential, commercial and industrial environments. The program offers courses in blueprint reading, transformer connections, conduit bending and wiring practices, utility regulations, AC theory, applied electrical math and national electric codes. Students will learn how to install, connect, test and maintain electrical systems, and Washington State will count the program hours towards a journeyman certification. Students will need an additional 4,000 hours, after graduating the program, in order to earn a journeyman certification.

Bellingham Technical College offers an associate in applied science degree for electricians. Students can expect to take classes in electrical drawings and blueprints, electrical safety, applied mechanics, electrical distribution, wiring and materials, commercial wiring, alternative electrical sources and industrial wiring and materials. Students learn about residential, industrial and commercial electrical equipment. Upon graduation, students who apply for a specialty electrical license through the Department of Labor and Industries can be credited with supervised work experience from their college coursework.

Bates Technical College, located in Tacoma, Washington, offers degree programs in electrical construction, electrical power and process automation and electrical engineering. After students go through the electrical construction program, they have acquired 4,000 hours of the 8,000 required by Washington State to get an EL01 Electrician's License. Students in the electrical construction program can expect to take the following courses: residential wiring, commercial wiring, estimating and bidding projects, wiring control solutions, using electrical field tools, basic service components and safety principles. The electrical engineering technician program focuses on electrical design where students learn how to draft and design electrical signals and lighting systems. The electrical power and process automation program focuses on the control of electrically-operated machines; coursework includes the study of electronics, devices, controllers, power systems, motor control systems and mechanical systems.
