Saint Paul College offers students an opportunity to earn an electrical maintenance certificate. This programs offers students training in the classroom and field. The curriculum teaches students about AC and DC electrical concepts, maintenance of electrical equipment and electrical distribution systems, repairing electrical systems and National Electrical Code (NEC) basics. Topics in this program include electromagnetic starters, harmonics and power quality, basic control circuits and blueprint reading. Students also are are given opportunities to intern while attending school.

Dakota County Technical College offers an associate's degree and diploma program in electrical construction and maintenance technology. This program educates students in electrical maintenance, operation, construction and installation. All the electrician courses follow the standards set by the National Electric Code. Courses are available in AC electrical theory, DC electrical theory, blueprint reading, mathematics for electricians, analog/digital theory, wiring theory and communications. Graduates are prepared for entry-level electrician positions in both indoor and outdoor work environments.

The electrician diploma program at Ridgewater College is set in accordance with the National Electrical Code. The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry approves this program and gives students a year of credit towards a Class A Journeymans License. Students learn to perform electrician work in residential and commercial settings. The curriculum covers applied mathematics, circuits, motor controls, transformers, HVAC and various other specialized systems.
