The Federal Pell Grant is available for college students who attend online colleges and universities. The amount of the grant awarded depends partly on whether you are a full-time or part-time online student. Pell grants are need-based and are available to students working toward earning their first bachelor's degree online.
The Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant is another need-based award given to students attending online schools. The grant amount varies depending on your need, availability of funds designated by the online college or university and your enrollment status. Students who qualify for the Federal Pell Grant will be considered for this grant as well.
The Academic Competitiveness Grant is provided to freshman and sophomore college students attending regular or online classes. Recipients must have excelled in a rigorous high school curriculum and hold a 3.0 grade point average by their sophomore year of college. Applicants must also be Federal Pell Grant recipients.
The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant (TEACH) is awarded to online students who plan to teach in private or public elementary and high schools in low-income communities. Recipients are required to meet certain academic requirements, including maintaining a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. You do not have to demonstrate a financial need to be awarded this grant. In order to receive the grant, students must sign a TEACH agreement and submit a FAFSA.
