Canadian Art Scholarships

A wide variety of scholarships helps to fund the study of the arts at universities and colleges across Canada. Awards can be put toward tuition and sometimes living expenses and special study programs in a variety of disciplines, from drama to painting, helping talented students to pursue their passions.
  1. Brucebo Fine Art Scholarship

    • The Brucebo Fine Art Scholarship sends artists to Sweden.

      The Embassy of Sweden in Canada sponsors the Brucebo Art Scholarship to help talented painters study overseas. Aimed at emerging Canadian artists under the age of 40, the scholarship provides an "inspiring study and work stay in northern Europe on the island of Gotland located in the middle of the crisp waters of the Baltic Sea," according to the embassy web site. The scholarship covers the cost of transportation to Sweden, art supplies and cottage rental, and also provides a living stipend for three months. The award is valued at 25,000 Swedish Kroner and is administered by McGill University.

    The Ray Jolliffe Memorial Scholarship

    • The Ray Jolliffe Memorial Scholarship can be used to study theater or television.

      Established in 2008, the The Ray Jolliffe Memorial Scholarship honors the contributions of the late Ray Jolliffe to local theater in the town of Lethbridge, Canada. One scholarship, worth $1,000, is awarded annually, for studying television production and design or theater production design and management at an accredited institute of higher learning anywhere in Canada.

    McCaffrey Memorial Endowment Scholarship

    • McCaffrey Memorial Endowment Scholarship is for students attending the U of Fraser Valley in British Columbia.

      To assist students studying fine arts at the University of Fraser Valley in British Columbia, the McCaffrey Memorial Endowment Scholarship provides one recipient a year with $500 for tuition and fees. Applicants must be current arts students at the University of Fraser Valley, and will need to submit slides of their work (such as paintings or illustrations), a CV and a letter of application. The University states that a "successful applicant will demonstrate high academic standards and outstanding studio practice" and will have "contributed to the life of the Visual Arts department."

    Walker Wood Foundation Scholarship

    • Walker Wood Foundation Scholarship is for study at Humber College, in Toronto.

      To help students from rural areas and disadvantaged neighborhoods of Toronto study music at Humber College, the Walker Wood Foundation Scholarship provides renewable $1,000 scholarships. Recipients must be high school students who hail from a small, rural community, the Toronto districts of Rexdale or Jane-Finch or "similar city-designated at-risk neighborhoods." Applicants must have excellent grades and demonstrate leadership roles in extracurricular activities as well as financial need.
