The H.U. Lee Scholarship Foundation was established by the American Taekwondo Association (ATA) in 1992 and awarded its first scholarships in 1996. It provides scholarships for high school graduates attaining at least a 3.0 GPA; have been accepted to college on a course starting no later than September 30; and who "exemplify the skills" they learned from the ATA. The size of the scholarship varies.

The Keiko Fukuda scholarship is intended to encourage women in judo to continue their education, or their study of judo. The size of the scholarship varies but is often around $400 to 500. The award is granted to Shinai and Kata practitioners on alternate years. Applicants must have been members of the U.S. Judo Federation for at least four years and have attained the rank of Shodan.

U.C. Riverside offers scholarships to full-time students practicing traditional Shotokan and who have been members of the karate team for one year or more; with priority going to senior competitors, students attaining Green belt or higher, and club officers. Recipients must participate in season and pre-season training and represent the karate team in tournaments.
