The International Trademark Association provides scholarship money for patent law students through the INTA Ladas Memorial Award. Students who receive this award receive a $2,000 educational grant, as well as a $1,000 stipend to travel to the annual INTA Gala. To enroll, a student must be pursuing a degree at the graduate level. Both part-time and full-time students are eligible. Applicants must submit a paper that deals with some aspect of trademark or patent law. The annual deadline for submission is Jan. 15.
The American Intellectual Property Law Education foundation provides scholarship money to students of patent law through the Sidney B. Williams, Jr. Scholarship Program. Sidney B. Williams, Jr. Scholarships are awarded in the amount of $10,000 per school year, for a maximum total contribution of $30,000 over the course of three years. Recipients must reapply for the scholarship annually. To be eligible, a student must be a U.S. citizen, and must already be enrolled in a patent law program that is accredited by the American Bar Association. The annual deadline for application is March 15.
The law firm of Marshall, Gerstein & Borun makes scholarship money available to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender patent law students through the Jeremy D. Protas LGBT Patent Law Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded annually in the amount of $1,000. To be eligible, a student must be enrolled in their second year at an ABA-accredited school, must be qualified to sit for the Patent Bar Exam, and must have an interest in pursuing a career in patent law. The annual deadline for application is July 31.
