The California Student Aid Commission offers a grant to students maintaining at least a half-time enrollment status of six credit hours, with grants available for up to $2,000 per year. To be eligible, students must be working toward a degree in childhood education as well as completing requirements for a child development permit. When applying for the grant, the applicant also must sign a Service Commitment Agreement to work for one year in a licensed children's center. Applicants for this grant must attend a eligible postsecondary two- or four-year institution. Applications for this particular grant are available through the institution the applicant will be attending.

The Child Development Training Consortium offers Career Incentive Grants to students pursuing careers in child care/development. These grants are available to students who work in California in an eligible child care/development program, have a social security number and are seeking a new or upgraded child development permit. The career incentive grants offered are to reimburse students for out-of-pocket expenses including tuition and books. Funds are limited, so all expenses must be verified before students receive grant money. Eligible students can apply online through the consortium's website.

The Professional Development Grant offered by the Child Care Connection is available to assist individuals with the cost of attending training and/or college classes in the child care/development field, as well as other costs associated with credentials and accreditation in the field. This grant is issued through the Illinois Department of Human Services. To be eligible for this grant, the individual must be employed by a center-based facility or family home center that is currently providing care and is listed on the Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies database. As such, this grant is only available to individuals in the state of Illinois. Individuals can apply for funds to cover tuition, training, credentialing and assessment by completing a Professional Development/Program Improvement Funds Application.

These typically are offered through funds donated by private parties and are available only at the one institution.
